What do I need with me for the call? +
Ahead of your consultation we'll ask you to complete a questionnaire. It would be useful to have a copy of your completed questionnaire to hand and obtain a copy of your State Pension forecast. Otherwise, you simply need an open mind, a clear view of your priorities, need and wants and perhaps a list of questions you might have.
I've never thought about pensions - I don't understand the offer I've received, the options or what to do! +
Our telephone consultations are designed to help people in this exact situation. As well as being highly qualified, our advisers are all trained in making difficult subjects extremely simple to understand.
Why do I have to provide such personal data about me and my spouse/partner? +
When reviewing a defined benefit scheme, we are required by our regulator to consider your entire financial position. It's vital to our advice, as we need to know how the pension fits into 'the bigger picture' - without this, we may not be able to provide a recommendation.
How long does the process take from start to finish? +
This is a complex and highly regulated area of advice, so it can be lengthy. The timescales will depend on the advice given and any follow-up actions. However, in all cases we will endeavour to provide you with a comprehensive report to confirm our recommendation at least two weeks prior to any deadline you'll have been given by your pension scheme. This ensures that you have plenty of time to consider your decision.
When are the consultations and how long do they take? +
Generally, the consultations are held on the phone, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. Our helpdesk will liase with you to arrange a suitable date and time. We suggest that you allow at least 45 minutes to an hour for the appointment.
Do I have to take financial advice? +
You are required to take financial advice if you want to transfer and the value of your pension is greater than £30,000, otherwise the answer is no. But unless you're completely sure that a transfer is right for you and your circumstances, taking advice - regardless of transfer value - is a good idea.
